POPLIN Italian-style Pilsner | ABV: 5.1% IBU: 38
Say hello to our little friend, Poplin, an Italian-style pilsner. A snappy dresser with bitterness to match, this pilsner has a honey sweetness from the German pilsner malt and a slight cracker-like flavor from the biscuit malt. What makes this pils Italian (despite being born in the USA)? Answer: The crispness that comes from the addition of German Perle, Hallertau Mittelfruh, and Mandarina Bavaria hops as well as being double dry hopped with Hallertau Mittelfruh and Mandarina Bavaria. We get notes of dried hay, meyer lemon peel, and clover honey.
INFI-KNIT TRAIL Thiolized Pale Ale | ABV: 4.5% IBU: Low
We brewed this one with Murphy & Rude Malting English Pale & biscuit malt to create a base that’s reminiscent of those quaffable English pub ales we love so much. This year, we opted to mash hop Infi-Knit Trail to load up the wort with thiol precursors. We also changed up the hopping this go-round, loading up the whirlpool with Elani and Mosaic Lupomax. Just like last year, we fermented Infi-Knit Trail with an expressive thiolizing yeast that produces highly aromatic tropical aroma compounds. Finally, we dry hopped Infi-Knit Trail with Elani, Mosaic Lupomax and El Dorado. We’re finding this year’s batch so sessionable that you might just set a new FKT for drinking a pint. And of course, just like year year, 10% of proceeds from Infi-Knit Trail will be donated to the Rivanna Trails Foundation to help in building and maintaining the public greenways that are so important in helping connect our community with surrounding nature. This year we’re getting notes of orange zest, sweet papaya, fruit cup, sun-dappled conifer forests, collecting Strava Crowns, passion fruit, and midday crowler-toting jaunts to the woods for some much needed forest bathing.
HERRINGBONE NE Hazy IPA | ABV: 6.5% IBU: Low
Dress it up or dress it down – Herringbone is a classic fabric for a reason. Our New England style single IPA is a solid go-to IPA that hits all the notes we want in a hoppy beer. We added Hull Melon, Azacca and Citra hops both during the whirlpool stage, as well as a single dry hop.
BRITCHES GET STITCHES West Coast IPA | ABV: 6.6% IBU: 68
What do you do when your favorite selvedge denim gets ripped? Britches Get Stitches. [pause for laughter] The tap list favorite West Coast IPA returns today, albeit with a few tweaks. “Britches’ sports a blend of base malts from our friends at Murphy & Rude Malting and a healthy dose of oats just to make sure the mouthfeel doesn't get too thin. In a quest to make this beer a little danker, we swapped out the Idaho Gem for Strata. CTZ & Mosaic remain in the mix to make sure ‘Britches Get Stitches’ stays true to it’s roots. In true West Coast form, ‘Britches’ got plenty of hot side hopping for pronounced bitterness and an aggressive dry hop charge at the end of fermentation. Pouring brilliant gold in color, Britches Get Stitches shines with notes of evergreen, tropical fruits, dank blueberries, ruby red grapefruit & getting sunburned because you fell asleep on the beach.
TRILBY Best Bitter | ABV: 4.3% IBU: 37
Trilby, our take on Best Bitter, is a little bigger all around than our Ordinary Bitter ‘Houndstooth’. We brewed this one with Crisp Maltings Floor Malted Maris Otter, Murphy & Rude biscuit malt & just enough dark crystal malt to give it tawny-hued fall vibes. Trilby is hopped with moreish amounts of East Kent Goldings & a touch of Endeavour just to keep things interesting. Finally, we fermented Trilby with our favorite British ale yeast. We’re getting notes of fresh apricots, red raspberry jam on whole wheat toast, tobacco blossom, sun-warmed figs, daydreaming about fall weather, and beer-flavored-beer.
TABOLCLOTH Franconian-style Vollbier | ABV: 5.1% IBU: 30
‘Tabolcloth’, our double decocted Franconian-style Vollbier and collaboration with Anytime Beer co. makes its return to our tap list just in time to help usher in Fall. Heavily inspired by our Head Brewer’s travels around Franconia and a mutual love for full-flavored yet sessionable lagers, we worked together with Anytime Beer Co. to create a reverent interpretation of the type of beer you might be served in many of the small family run breweries scattered throughout the Upper Franconian countryside. As a nod to the breweries of this region who still malt their own, locally grown barley, we chose to use a grain bill consisting of Vienna and Munich malt from our neighbors Murphy & Rude Malting. We hopped this amber lager with Spalter Select & Saphir, giving it just enough hop character to balance the complex malt profile. This year, we leaned further into Franconian brewing traditions and elected to double decoct ‘Tabolcloth’, amplifying the complex toast & Maillard flavors from the Murphy & Rude malts. Finally, we fermented ‘Tabolcloth’ cold and slow with the once lost Franconian lager strain and lagered it extensively, lending a roundness that we feel is perfectly suited for malt driven lagers. We’re getting notes of rustic bread crust, orange marmalade, a crisp fall breeze, graham crackers, hiking through the Upper Franconian countryside, subtle toffee, black tea, and blurry evenings at bierkellers.
LODEN Vienna Lager | ABV: 5.3% IBU: 28
Named for the boiled wool fabric originating from the alpine state of Tyrol, ‘Loden’ draws inspiration from the original Vienna Lager recipes of the mid 1800’s. In classic fashion, we went with a grain bill consisting entirely of Weyermann Specialty Malts Barke Vienna malt. As a further nod to the original Vienna Lagers, we hopped ‘Loden’ exclusively with Czech grown Saaz. We fermented Loden with an old school German lager yeast known for its ability to highlight malt flavors in beer and spunded the tank near the end of fermentation, allowing the beer to naturally carbonate. Finally, we lagered Loden for an extended period of time, not moving it through the brewery until we felt it was ready. Loden holds a special place in our hearts as the original batch was our first foray into decoction brewing. We feel this intensive mashing process is integral to many of our lagers and it seems as though Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine agrees, scoring Loden a 91/100 and featuring it in their 2024 Lager issue. Pouring a fiery, alpenglow gold color, ‘Loden’ sings with notes of toasted bread, white pepper, doughy brioche, savory marjoram, toasted pecans & really long brew days.
Pro-Seam, Please 14° Tmavé Pivo | ABV: 5.6% IBU: 41
Our newest Czech-style offering, ‘Pro-Seam, Please’, is an ode to our brewers’ favorite dark lagers they drank while traveling around Prague. For this one we used a mix of Weyermann Specialty Malts floor-malted Czech Pilsner malt, floor-malted Czech Dark malt, a hefty dose of Czech crystal malt & just enough roasted malt to get a color that barely approaches black. ‘Pro-Seam, Please’ is un-bashfully hopped with Czech-grown Saaz & fermented with a classic Czech lager yeast strain. Being a Czech-style lager, we chose to employ a double decoction mash regime when brewing ‘Pro-Seam’, just as they do in Bohemia. At the tail end of a long, cold fermentation, our tmavé pivo was spunded & naturally carbonated for the finest of carbonation & luxurious foam. Finally, because we believe beers should be served as they would be in their place of origin, we’re serving ‘Pro-Seam’ on one of our LUKR faucets & giving you the choice between Hladinka, Šnyt, and Mlíko pours. Embrace the foam! We’re getting notes of sticky dates, fruity dark chocolate, verdant marjoram, the crunchy top on creme brûlée, pumpernickel bread, bleary-eyed pub hopping around Prague, pitelnost, and pretzel crust.
